How to set up Get on Board's MCP server with ChatGPT

When you source candidates from ChatGPT as a recruiter or company team, Get on Board’s MCP server connects ChatGPT to Talent Database so you can search Latin American tech professionals from your ChatGPT conversation.

ChatGPT currently handles custom MCP connections through apps in Developer Mode. OpenAI describes Developer Mode and full MCP app support as beta, so labels and availability may change by plan, region, and workspace settings. Use the steps below for the tested Get on Board setup.

Before you start

You need:

  • A ChatGPT workspace that lets you create custom apps with MCP.
  • Developer Mode enabled in ChatGPT.
  • A Get on Board recruiter account with access to an accepted company.
  • Talent Database access on the company account you will authorize.
  • The remote MCP server URL: https://www.getonbrd.com/mcp.

Enable Developer Mode in ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps and enable Developer Mode.

Keep Developer Mode active after setup. In current ChatGPT behavior, the custom Get on Board app remains usable for Talent Database queries only while Developer Mode is active.

If you do not see Developer Mode, check your ChatGPT plan and workspace permissions. OpenAI documents Developer Mode and MCP apps as beta features for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces on ChatGPT web, controlled by workspace settings and admin permissions.

Create the Get on Board app

After Developer Mode is active, create a new app in ChatGPT.

Use these values exactly:

  • Name: Get on Board
  • Description: Find tech talent in Latin America
  • MCP Server URL: https://www.getonbrd.com/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth

Leave the icon optional unless your workspace requires one. Accept the custom MCP server risk notice only if you understand that ChatGPT is connecting to a custom app you are adding to your workspace.

Click Create.

Authorize Get on Board

When ChatGPT opens the authorization flow:

  1. Sign in to Get on Board with your recruiter account.
  2. Select the company context ChatGPT should use.
  3. Approve the requested MCP access.

After authorization, start a new ChatGPT conversation if the Get on Board tools do not appear immediately.

Verify the connection

In ChatGPT, ask:

Use the Get on Board MCP server to call whoami and confirm my active company.

ChatGPT should return your Get on Board identity, the active company context, and the available MCP tools.

Then try a Talent Database search, for example:

Use Get on Board to find senior Python engineers in Mexico with English C1 who are available soon.

If you need to reconnect

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps, remove the Get on Board app, and create it again with the same values:

  • MCP Server URL: https://www.getonbrd.com/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth

Then authorize Get on Board again from the browser flow. Keep Developer Mode active before testing a new Talent Database query.
